Successful in Small Format

Three Austrian printing companies – Walser Druck, Reprozwölf Spannbauer and Wambacher-Voggenhuber – have opted to buy a five-color ROLAND 200 in 0B format.

Walser Druck in Telfs was founded as a newspaper publishing house in 1967 by Norbert Walser who published “Blickpunkt” at that time. The newspaper flourished to the extent that the company decided in 1972 to open its own printing plant and produce the paper itself. Today, with 18 employees, the company prints a wide range of products – from business stationery through magazines, books, flyers, posters and leaflets right up to high-quality brochures and catalogues. In order to keep up with technical developments and meet the ever increasing requirements of his customers, Armin Walser, head of the company today and son of the founder, ordered a five-color ROLAND 200 from MAN Roland. This 0B format press has many automated functions that enable it to produce a wide variety of jobs with extremely short makeready times. Besides this it is now possible to print jobs in four colors plus a spot color or print varnish in one pass. A special feature of the press is the carton equipment which permits trouble-free production of full solids on substrates up to 0.8 mm thick.

"Give me Five" in Telfs, Vienna and Raab

The short makeready times, high printing speeds and electronic controls of the ROLAND 200 ensure economical production of high-quality print jobs in the shortest possible time. Reprozwölf Spannbauer in Vienna’s 12th district is now benefiting from this as well. Until recently one of the leading prepress studios in Austria, Herta and Marius Spannbauer have now expanded their business by adding offset printing with a new ROLAND 200.

“Standing still is going backwards” is the motto of Josef Wambacher. To commemorate its 100th anniversary, Wambacher-Voggenhuber with branches in Raab and Eferding bought a new offset press. Both locations print magazines, books, business stationery, forms and labels. The ROLAND 200 is installed in Raab and impresses with its compact dimensions and high level of automation. The teflon-coated ink fountains that only MAN Roland can offer for small-format presses greatly simplify wash-ups.

A compact all-rounder

The ROLAND 200 from MAN Roland is the entry-level press for ambitious printers who want to move up to the 50/70 format category. It is equipped with double-diameter Transferters and EPL (Ergonomic Plate Loading), the automated plate changing system which drastically reduces makeready time because plates are changed in one minute per printing unit. Remote-controlled register adjustment ensures perfect register over an entire run. The five-color ROLAND 200 has a maximum speed of 13,000 sheets per hour and also features an automatic blanket washing system.

Inline coating with the ROLAND 200.

The ROLAND 200 prints thin paper as well as thick carton in the highest quality. Besides the two- and four-color versions that have been on the market for a long time, the ROLAND 200 is now also available as a five- and six-color press. An additional one or two printing units increases a printing company’s flexibility because, besides four process colors, spot colors or print varnish or effect coating can be applied in one pass.

Inline coating in a printing unit

Even without a dedicated coating unit, the ROLAND 200 can meet the highest demands for print product enhancement and surface protection. The additional printing units can be used to apply coating to protect the surface of print products or to enhance them. One can use water-based dispersion coating or oil-based print varnish – both have good drying properties even without an IR dryer.

Color security just like the bigger presses

The ROLAND RCI (Remote Controlled Inking) color control system reduces makeready time considerably. The ink slides in all printing units are set from a central position at the press control console. Precise ink slide presetting values can be taken over offline via a JobCard or online via the PECOM network (this feature will be available as from February 2007). This brings the press up to color faster and reduces start-up waste.

ColorPilot smart – simple and effective

ColorPilot smart was developed specifically for the 0B format ROLAND 200. In one measuring run, a hand-held scanning densitometer measures ink layer thicknesses and tone values of process colors as well as spot colors in print control strips. It can also measure perfected sheets. Print quality during color matching, proofing and production is verifiable and remains stable, making printing in 0B format even more economical. As from February 2007, an automatic version of ColorPilot smart will be available as well.
